To foster, encourage, and promote the arts in the City of St. George for the purpose of enriching and improving the lives of its residents and visitors. This will be accomplished through the creation, advocacy, and facilitation of arts programming.

What does the Arts Commission do?
  • Assists the City cultural planning policies.
  • Renders assistance to local schools to improve the quality of arts education at elementary, secondary and college levels. 
  • Supports and cooperates in the operation of other physical facilities for cultural activities. 
  • Supports existing arts activities.
  • Assesses future needs of the community for art activities. Recommends to the City the need for financial and logistic support when deemed advisable. 
  • Assists and oversees the availability and application for grant monies.
  • Solicits matching funds from the community where necessary.
  • Maintains contact with State and Federal agencies and councils that provide assistance to the arts.
How are Arts Commission members selected?
Since its founding in 1990, the Arts Commission strives to represent and serve all forms of Art in the City of St. George. To this purpose, the Commission consists of five to fifteen voting members appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of City Council. All members are residents of the City and at least one member represents each area of art with which the Commission deals. Each member serves for an initial term of three years. Other members of the Commission include liaisons from the City, School District, and Art Museum.
When does the Arts Commission meet?
The Arts Commission meets regularly on the fourth Thursday of the month (unless holidays or City Calendar necessitates otherwise). The Arts Commission also meets for special functions such as Grant Panel and to plan the annual Summit.

How do I apply for a grant?
Grant applications are linked on this page. Please read through the Grant Guidelines to see if you qualify. The Arts Commission administers two granting programs each year. Please make sure you are applying for the one(s) you qualify for.

Granting Program Documents and Resources
The St. George Arts Commission manages two granting programs each fiscal year.
The City of St. George RAP Tax Granting Program is made possible by the Washington County RAP Tax. Applications open in February each year. 
The St. George General Fund Arts Grant is made possible by the City of St. George. Applications typically open in July of each year and are available on a rolling basis until all funds have been granted.
