Washington County Landfill Recycling
Yes, the Washington County Solid Waste District contracts with the City of St. George and other cities and towns within Washington County to provide their residents with garbage and recycling services. All cities collect fees from residents and remit the fees back to the District.
Please do not place your items to be recycled in bags, they should be placed directly in the Binnie or in the BluCan recycling container as separate items! Glass – Should only be taken to the Binnies and not be placed in the BluCan container!!!

Recycling will be collected on the same day as your regular trash collection day every other week but by a separate company so may occur at different times that same day.

BluCan Curbside Recycling is only available to residents who already have curbside trash removal services. If you have additional questions, please contact the Washington County Solid Waste District at 435-673-2813.
BluCan is a residential curbside recycling service only and does not offer recycling services to businesses.
BETTER LANDFILL UTILIZATION
The recycling program lowers the long run costs of garbage collection by lowering the city's relative garbage contribution. In the first year of the recycling program, the residents have recycled over 2 million pounds of material that would have ended up in the landfill. Recycling is also an environmentally responsible activity. It saves natural resources, saves energy, reduces the need for landfill space, and lowers the need to use toxic chemicals.
The recycling material is taken to the Washington County Solid Waste transfer station to be loaded and hauled by semi-trucks to the Republic Service Recycling Facility outside of Las Vegas Nevada. View the process of how the recycling takes place:
Residential BluCan Curbside Recycling

What can be recycled? The District is asking that residents using either the “Binnie” program or the “BluCan” curbside program, recycle only the following materials currently.
