John was born in Chicago, Illinois,  and grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. He picked up his first racket 40 years ago, and started playing before he was 4 years old. His dad worked at a Wilson Sporting Goods store for more than 20 years, so he was always around tennis growing up. John's favorite part of tennis is the adrenaline rush that comes from playing and competing, and being able to execute shots at high pressure moments. He loves coaching because he gets to see his students learn how to execute a variety of skills they are taught, and loves seeing them succeed. John was a singles champion in Salt Lake City at 9 years old, and was a two-time 5A state finalist in #1 doubles at Brighton High School. He is also a two-time St. George City open division doubles champion. When John isn't playing tennis he enjoys traveling the world, playing and watching sports, eating, and cooking. John can speak 3 different languages and has lived overseas for more than 10 years!
