The St. George Youth City Council (YCC) is a self-directed group of teens who are charged with representing and advocating for youth to St. George's City Government and advocating for youth throughout the community.
As a collaborative effort, its main objectives are to develop future leaders, give formal voice to youth, engage in civic education and community service and improve conditions for local youth.
The Youth City Council is a prestigious organization that replicates the St. George City Council, but is administered by the youth of our community. It is comprised of a Mayor, City Manager, Recorder, Operations Director, Communications Director, Service and Recreation Director, Government Liaison, and Council Members. Members learn about the challenges and successes of local government, gain an understanding of the operations and functions, and take an active interest in addressing issues relating to local affairs, community events and youth issues.
Participating in the YCC not only helps improve leadership, project development and management skills, it may just increase the chance of receiving a college scholarship! Application for each upcoming school year open in January of each year and close in the middle of March.
Embrace the possibilities of your own potential . . .
The formal application period for the YCC each year is from December through Mid-March.Applications may be submitted before those dates, but will only be considered during the evaluation period after Mid-March. Interviews of applicants will be conducted in late March and early April of each year.
