Yes. In order to participate in the program you are required to sign an Adult Waiver or Youth Informed Consent Form. You will also need to fill out the online medical form.
Yes.  At times classes will be cancelled because of poor weather or bad trail conditions.  If this is the case, our instructors will reach out to you letting you know that there will be no class.  All missed classes will be rescheduled at a later time.
Yes. This class is open for youth ages 8-17 years old.
Non constrictive active wear/clothing. All of our classes meet outside, so please dress for the weather.
A crash pad is a large pad used for somone who is bouldering to fall onto.  The pads are often 6-8 inches thick and are made up of both closed and open celled foam.  While climbing these pads are laid on the ground under the boulder problem or route to provide a safe landing for climbers. These pads can provide safety for falls up to 20 ft.  Our climbers will never climb with the top of their head being more than 10 feet off the ground. This results in falls that are only a few feet in height with 6+ pads below them and the other climbers and instructors spotting them.
Withdrawal/Transfer less than 7 days prior to the start date may be subject to a fee. No refunds on or after that date.
Yes! Our instructors are excellent coaches. They will select different climbing locations and routes based on the abilities of the climbers in the class. If your child shows a high level of proficencythe instructors may do an assessment for them and suggest they be moved to a higher level class.
Climbing shoes, crash-pads, chalk, instruction, and transportation.
Bouldering is rock climbing.  The difference being the height that is climbed and the protective gear used.  In roped climbing, climbers utilize harnesses, belay devices, anchor systems, and ropes to provide safety while climbing.  These pieces of gear are needed due to the height of the routes. At SGO, we do not do roped climbing and instead boulder.  Bouldering allows climbers to do hard moves, known as the crux of the route, while only being a few feet off the ground.  Significantly decreasing the height off the ground significantly decreases the risk associated.  Bouldering utilizes crash pads and spotters to provide a safe zone for climbers to fall a few feet if they are unable to finish a climb. At SGO, we have a policy that the top of a climbers head may never be more than 10 feet off the ground.  This industry standard helps to keep all falls to only a few feet even though the saftey systems we use can provide saftey up to 25 feet. If you have further questions, do not hesitate to reach out to the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor, Mike.  He would be glad to answer any questions you have. He can be reached at 435-627-4579.
Appropriate clothing for all weather conditions including a rain jacket, small backpack, 2 liters of water, and a snack. All emergency supplies, such as an inhaler should also be brought and instructors should be informed.
Each class will start and end at the Rec Center. For the first class of each session, please plan on showing up 15 minutes early.
We do our best to work with the school schedule to make sure we avoid scheduling classes during large periods of time off. We want our families to have the option to still sign up for our courses and not miss out on a chance to travel or have their child miss a class because of travel. During the months that our courses are 3 weeks instead 4, we have adjusted the price.
