City Hall at Town Square:
... be constructed to support the services the City provides to its more than 100,000 residents.“With this new building we are aiming to serve our growing city while also celebrating our heritage,” said Mayor Michele Randall. “The address will be 61 South Main Street — the ‘61’ symbolizing the year, 1861, that the pioneers settled in St. George. With its location, our new City Hall will be an extension of Historic Town Square, the premier gathering place in the City of St. George.”The current St. George City Hall, located at 175 East 200 North, was built in 1980 — when the City’s population was approximately 11,350. In the early years of that building, City Hall housed almost every city service provided to our community. However, in the ensuing 43 years demands for the City’s services have grown exponentially.Due to the significant growth, multiple departments once part of City Hall, such as Police, 911 Dispatch, Water and Energy Services, Parks and Community Services, Technology Services, and others have been moved to other buildings or satellite locations. Despite these relocations, the number of employees located within City Hall increased from 52 to over 100.The current City Hall building is approximately 34,000 square feet and is occupied by most of the City’s public-facing departments which directly serve our residents, businesses and development community. These services include: utilities, business licensing, building permits, development and planning, City employment opportunities, code enforcement, community involvement through attending City Council or Planning meetings, and other services. The new City Hall will consist of three levels over a space of approximately 69,500 square feet; increases the size of the Council Chambers from a current capacity of 150 to 300 — which will also be easily converted to a community room, a training center, and space for public forums; provides a ground-level indoor civic space consisting of 4,350 square feet to be programmed for civic events and provide opportunities for public art installations and informative exhibits. There will also be a four-level parking structure built on site, nearly tripling the number of parking spaces available at the current City Hall building. The parking structure will be available to the public during and after business hours, and weekends.“High-efficiency, productivity, necessity, transparency and functionality have been major drivers in designing the new City Hall,” Randall added. “City Hall belongs to the people, so with that in mind the facility will have an open, clean, well-lit, safe and friendly environment that the community will easily identify as welcoming and open to all.”About the City of St. GeorgeSt. George is the largest city in Washington County and the fifth-largest city in Utah withapproximately 100,000 residents. In recent years, people from across the United States an...
