The fire department holds regular cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) certification courses for city employees and the public. Hundreds of people are taught and certified in life-saving skills each year through the department’s American Safety & Health Institute training center. These classes include instruction on chest compressions, rescue breathing with a barrier device, airway obstruction, and proper use of an AED.

Automated External Defibrillators (AED)
Automated External Defibrillators are a critical tool in saving lives during sudden cardiac arrest. Studies have proven that a victim has nearly a 70% chance of surviving if they can be defibrillated within the first few minutes of going into cardiac arrest.
Most golf courses and recreation sites throughout the city have AEDs available.
