The Bridal Path, An Installation

The monitor in the Main Gallery displays a continuous slide show of photographs by Nancy B. Frank in Bridal Path: The Life of a Wedding Dress. Nancy Frank (whose Mother’s wedding dress is included in our exhibit) earned a B.F.A. in painting at Ohio Wesleyan University and an M.F.A. in photo-printmaking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After purchasing a second hand wedding dress for a possible Halloween costume she decided to photograph herself wearing it in various locations throughout her travels. Having never married, she saw the project as an expression of the idea that one can have the honeymoon without the wedding. Later she recognized that on some level she was "wearing the dress" – going through the right of passage that was missing in her own life.
