Dixie Red Hills Golf Course

Responsive image Responsive image

Dixie Red Hills Golf Course was the first golf course developed by the City of St.George in the mid 1960’s taking us from a desert gas station stop to a true place of beauty and tourism.

Because of its spectacular red rock setting and playability, Dixie Red Hills Golf Course been the favorite of recreational and serious golfers alike. Dixie Red Hills is a 9-hole par-34 layout that meanders around the sandstone cliffs commonly seen in the area. This golfer friendly course also features hundreds of mature Cottonwoods, Mondale Pines, Mesquite, and other trees that provide ample shade during St. George’s warmer months. If you want to play in the red rocks, you can’t get any closer than this. You’ll be calling shots off the boulders, around the cliffs and through the trees as you find your way to the green.

Each hole is quite distinct and will leave a lasting memory in the minds of golfers. Three holes that will stand out most are #1, #3, and #6. The first hole at Dixie Red Hills Golf Course is a short, uphill par four. From the tee it appears quite innocuous. But if you are lucky enough to get past the huge red rock sentry located in the fairway adjacent to the green, your worries have just begun. Golfers often talk about being addicted to the game. Once you play Dixie Red Hills, you to will understand why! The course is a favorite of those who enjoy walking and playing a golf  course with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Sunbrook Golf Club

Sunbrook Golf Course is right in town and has a great variety of what the Red Rock Golf Trail has to offer. Play from the top of the bluffs to the desert floor.  Shoot through black lava rock and try to avoid the red sand traps. With beautiful views of red rock formations and nearby alpine mountains, you’ll be in awe over the amazing landscapes that surround this course. Bridges, water hazards and elevation drops make every hole an adventure!  There is even a par 3 island hole that will leave you dreaming about a hole in one.

Golf Digest twice rated Sunbrook Golf Course as the best golf course in Utah. This rating is a result of a number of elements including scenery, challenge, quality, and service. With the addition of the Black Rock Nine, Sunbrook is the only golf club in southwest Utah to feature 27 championship holes.

Fairway Magazine talks about Sunbrook Golf Course: The crown jewel of St. George City owned golf courses is the Sunbrook Golf Course.  Sunbrook features three distinct nines. The Pointe nine meanders through the foothills of the west side of St. George, offering tremendous views of the surrounding landscape. The Pointe has plenty of water hazards and some great risk/reward holes. The Wood Bridge nine features two of the most recognizable golf holes in southern Utah. The 4th hole is a par 3 with an elevated tee shot to an island green. The island green is generous in size but it is still no consolation to golfers wishing to avoid dumping that new Titleist into the water. And if an island green isn’t enough, the par-4 5th hole has more in store for you. From the tee the famous wood bridge is visible just beyond the landing area. The hole requires a well-placed tee shot between water hazards and sagebrush, all from an elevated tee. Once you find the landing area, you will face a long approach shot into a well-guarded green. The newest addition to Sunbrook is the Black Rock nine. With three holes carved from lava fields, Black Rock puts a premium on accuracy. Black Rock has improved the overall playing experience at Sunbrook resulting in an unmatchable variety of championship golf holes.

Southgate Golf Club

Responsive image Responsive image

Southgate Golf Course can be a walkable course for those looking to mix a little exercise in with their golf game.  This is a “doable” course that weaves alongside the Santa Clara river – just close enough to make it beautiful and keep the game interesting.  Eight of the first nine holes have water features, so you’ve got to be accurate.  But the fairways are wide, so there’s usually a safe place to play.  The back nine, however, is a different story.  The narrow fairways and hills make you justify your front nine score.  If you’re not happy with your results, Southgate also has a game improvement center with PGA professionals to help you dial things in!

Southgate Golf Course is a golf course with multiple personalities. Laid out as a great walking course, the front nine requires accuracy to successfully negotiate its waterways. Eight out of nine holes on the front nine feature either a lake or the Santa Clara River as scenic challenges to par. The back 9, slightly longer than the front nine, adds the element of risk/reward and allows the player to recover shots lost on the front nine. Southgate Golf Course is a par-70 layout which is enjoyable for all levels of ability.”

Fairway Magazine talks about Southgate: Southgate Golf Course is one of the most player-friendly courses in the area. Southgate has undergone extensive redesign over the past 15 years. The front nine meanders along the beautiful Santa Clara River while the back nine traverses the foothills of Tonaquint Mountain providing stunning views of downtown St. George with its red rock backdrop. Southgate is a great golf course for those looking for an enjoyable round of golf as opposed to a brutal test of your skills. Southgate Golf Course also features a game improvement center with award-winning PGA professionals and instruction programs.

St. George Golf Club

Responsive image Responsive image

St. George Golf Club is a municipal course operated by the City of St. George. This course has stood strong as the city has grown and new courses have been added. The golf course has been a part of St. George for 30+ years. It has more of a traditional feel to its lay out, while maintaining the challenge of a Par of 73. Those who have been coming to play golf in southern Utah for many years have most likely played it before.

The appeal of St. George Golf Club has always been the favorable greens. As with most older courses, the greens are not as tricky, and putts are makeable for longer distances even for the average player. Big greens and the area around the greens provide players area for their “less than perfect shots.” Another appeal of this course is that of two seasons. During the peak season, November through March, the golf course has the distinct look of other southwest courses where the rough has a brown look while the tees, fairways, and greens are a rich green color.

Fairway Magazine talks about St. Geoge Golf Club: The St. George Golf Club is a unique design that winds its way through the Ft. Pearce Wash. The course is one of the better layouts in the area and is perfect for those golfers who like to walk and wish to mix a little exercise with their round. The most prevalent features on the golf course are the challenging par-3s over water and the peninsula that hosts both the par-5 9th green and the par-4 18th green. Even though most golfers will have a short iron approach into these two greens, accuracy and distance control are at a premium.
