I was born in Logan, Utah, then moved to Jerome, Idaho, for just over a year before coming down to St. George in 1974. I graduated from Dixie High School in 1981.

I joined the Utah Army National Guard (Triple Deuce) in 1979 at the age of 17, worked at Moore Business Forms and Dixie Ambulance before going full time in the military. While in the Triple Deuce I flew as a Medic on the UH1 Huey Helicopter, was a Crew Chief/Door Gunner on the UH 60 Blackhawk, and taught at the Military Regional Training Institute. I was also a recruiter, then deployed to Afghanistan in 2012 to 2013 as a 1st Sergeant. I ended my career as a Command Sergeant Major in 2016 after 36 years in the service.

I now work for Kustom Container, chip away at my “honey-do” list, and watch my beautiful granddaughter after school. I have been blessed to have married my beautiful wife Becky in 1984, and had 3 wonderful children. I love riding my Harley, hunting and playing and baseball. But most of all, I enjoy spending time with my grandkids and family.

I told my father, Joe Bowcutt, that when his time was over on the Council I might run for council. It came before I expected, but I will do my best for the citizens of St. George as I have for my country. I am truly blessed. God bless you and God bless America.

Councilman Bryan Smethurst current term expires December 31, 2021.
