Energy Saving Tips:

  • Set your thermostat to 76 to 78 degrees (F) during warm weather.
  • When you leave the house, set the thermostat 5 to 10 degrees higher.
  • Dress lightly in loose clothing at home.
  • Keep the air moving with a fan.
  • If a room isn't in use, close the vent.
  • Clean and replace air vent filters monthly.
  • Keep curtains or blinds drawn on windows with direct sun.
  • Keep your showers short and cool.
  • Do laundry only when you have a full load.
  • If you're in the market for a new clothes washer,
          buy an Energy Star qualified machine that uses 50 percent less water and 30 to 50 percent less power.
  • Turn lights and appliances off when they're not needed.
  • Use use compact fluorescent bulbs or electronic ballast fluorescent bulbs. These use less energy and reduce heat.


  • Air Conditioners:

    Identifying ways to reduce unnecessary electricity use is a win-win -- for residents, businesses, and the City of St. George. Turning air conditioners up to 78F. instead of 76F. is one step, as are turning off lights when you leave a room, or turning off the computer. Fluctuating market prices have created many challenges, and are one factor to the summer rate increase that will end on October 1. Following are some "power tips" you may want to consider.

    Energy Saving Appliance:

    Remember - when you are getting ready to invest in a new appliance, choose those with the Energy Star rating! They are not necessarily more expensive, but use much less energy.
