- There are plans for an extensive bike/walking trail system for the future which is very good and should have continued emphasis. However, until funding is available for these many trails, emphasis should be placed on connecting up the existing trails where possible to form loops for bike riding. This emphasis on trail connecting should include heavy coordination between the various municipalities in the area to achieve a less disjointed system.
- As a cyclist, I like to see plans for trails and bike lanes in place from the start for maximizing fund use. What happened with the bike lane plans on Riverside Drive extension going east of River Road? I understand that 3000 East (Fields Road in Washington City) south of Telegraph is going to be out to bid in the next few months. Is there a plan for 8-foot bike lanes in the design going out to bid? What bike lane or trail plans are in place in front of the Summit Gym (1450 South, I think). The trail ends at River Road and biking to the Washington Fields area down that road looks risky until you pass the Summit when it widens.
- Excellent, worth the trip to get information. Could use more information on trail system in Washington County.
- Make sure bike/pedestrian trails connect under I-15 and Virgin River trail on other side of bike/pedestrian bridge (after Dixie Drive back road constructed.
Response The St. George City Parks Department has been working this year and will continue into the next year fixing trails damaged by flooding and connecting existing trails. They also plan to connects as many trails as possible into neighborhoods for easier access.
A County-wide trails group has recently been formed to coordinate trails in Ivins, Santa Clara, St. George and Washington cities and Washington County. A master trail plan for Washington County is being coordinated by Kurt Hutching of the Dixie MPO, and should be available within the year.
