Following nine months of study and deliberation among the Citizen Technical Advisory Committee, City staff and Horrocks Engineers, a list of prioritized projects has been prepared for presentation to the city council. The final report will be released following approval by the city council. The Traffic and Transportation Master Plan will integrate roads, bridges, bike paths, trails, public transit and state-of-the-art technology into a proactive program to stay ahead of the growth curve in St. George.
Vision: The citizens of the St. George desire to have a multi-modal transportation system that provides convenient and safe connections and access throughout the region. The system will support transportation choices for all individuals, regardless of income, physical condition or ability to operate a vehicle. It will provide well-connected pedestrian and bicycle facilities and will enhance the quality of life for all residents, while promoting economic development and a healthy environment.
Goals: Enhance efficiency by inproving cross-town mobility and reducing congestion and commuting time.
Safety Enhance safety for vehicle drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians, transit riders, wheelchair users, and children.
Pedestrian and Bicycle Facilities Integrate pedestrian and bicycle facilities into the overall transportation system to meet recreational and commuting needs.
Communication and Education Increase opportunities for education and participation among planners and the public.
Quality of Life Preserve sense of community with enhanced streetscape and walkways. Maintain the integrity of neighborhoods and build healthy communities. Provide transportation systems which enhance the travel experience by being aesthetically pleasing and comfortable.
Public Transportation Improve public transportation to be increasingly convenient, comfortable, and reliable and link other public and private systems. The system will be affordable to all users, while assuring that all economic sectors provide equitable financial support to the system.
Land Use and Planning Encourage communication among land and transportation planners in an effort to develop a transportation system that will be planned, preserved, developed, operated and maintained in a collaborative manner.
