City of St. George Energy Services Department goes solar!

In October 2005 the City adopted a net metering policy. This policy provides a rebate to customers that install photovoltaic (solar) generation systems that are bi-directional. Bi-directional systems allow energy to be used by the customer or energy generated in excess of the customers need to be “sold” back to the utility. By encouraging the use of renewable energy, the St. George Energy Services Department is taking an active role in promoting environmentally friendly sources of energy.

The department is taking the lead in using renewable energy by installing a 5 kW photovoltaic system on the Water and Energy Services Building located at 811 E Red Hills Parkway. This installation will serve as an example of how seamlessly solar energy can be incorporated into a commercial site.

Any questions regarding this project or the net metering policy can be directed to the René Fleming, Conservation Coordinator, at rene.fleming@sgcity.org.
