January 10, 2009 Saturday Morning Exploration- Let's Go Green 2-99 years
Calling all Greenies! Come join us this weekend for a new Saturday Morning Exploration program at Tonaquint Nature Center! This month we are going to explore the surrounding environment and discover ways we can become more “green”. Whether you are a first-rate conservationist, or just starting to recycle, come join us on Saturday, October 11th, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. This family-centered program is free of charge and lasts approximately one hour. Come join the fun and you’ll see- it’s so easy to go green!

Kids will love joining Curiosity Club! Each week will feature new topics such as Up, Up & Away, Animal Homes, Five Senses, Nursery Rhyme Time. Pre-registration deadline is Friday, January 9, 2009 at 5pm.

Fee: $20/child OR $5 for each session.

January 22, 2009 Efficient Irrigation Design I: Designing Lawn Irrigation Adult
In the first hour you will learn the basics of an irrigation system design. Learn to talk the lingo and recognize potential irrigation problem areas. Attendees will be provided instructions on how to read an irrigation plan, common errors made in designs and what you can do to protect your investment. The remaining time will be spent demonstrating turf varieties and what is best suitable for your needs and how to have a lush lawn without a high water bill.

This exciting three-day event offers an opportunity to explore and learn more about the significant natural areas of Southern Utah’s birding hot spots. This will be field trips, workshops, presentations and bird walks throughout the weekend. On Saturday evening there will be a dinner and keynote speaker, Mr. Bill Fenimore, hosted at the Best Western Abbey Inn. Come join us this Saturday, September 13th at the Tonaquint Nature Center for the free Saturday Morning Exploration Program. This month we are going to get a little “Wet and Wild,” as we learn first-hand about wetland ecology. From frogs to fish, we will be exploring all the plants and animals living in our pond and along the Santa Clara River. This program begins at 10:00 a.m. and will run for approximately one hour. It’s free, fun and perfect for the whole family!

This month’s program is titled “It’s Still Hot Out Here!” where we will be focusing on our high desert biome and the unique and awesome ecology of Washington County. Come join us as we explore Colorado Basin, The Great Basin and Mojave desert wildlife including local plants and animals! This program begins at 10:00 a.m. and will run for approximately one hour.
