URPA Outstanding Program for Lil' Detectives

Lil' Detective Camp was awarded the 2006 URPA Outstanding Program.

In only its 3rd year Lil' Detective Camp directed by Dawn Eide-Albrecht won URPA's coveted outstanding program award.

 

 

2008 Awards of Excellence

City of St. George Receives State Awards in Parks and Recreation St George, UT. - The City of St. George has been honored for its commitment to quality programming, design and service to the community for leisure and recreational opportunities. The Utah Recreation and Parks Association (URPA) held its annual conference in St. George at the Dixie Center in March, 2008 and awarded the City and the St. George Leisure Services Department two awards of excellence for their commitment in the Parks and Recreation field.

The Outstanding Facility award was given to the City for the St. George Water Walk on Historic Main Street and the Town Square. The Water Walk begins at Brooks Nature Park and flows down to the Town Square. The purpose of the St. George Water Walk and Town Square was to enhance downtown and create a gathering place in the heart of the City to reflect community's rich heritage. The Water Walk and Town Square were dedicated on October 15, 2007 under the direction of Mayor McArthur and the St. George City Council.

The Outstanding Program of the Year award was presented to the City Leisure Services Department for the Tonaquint Nature Center and its youth summer camp program. This program has continued to grow in popularity with local residents since it began 2001 by adding more sessions to meet the demand of a rapidly growing community. The program's primary goal is to educate local youth to the wonders of nature through environmental education activities. Congratulations to the City of St. George for its continual dedication to enhancing the quality of life for its citizens and visitors through innovative programming and beautiful parks and facilities.
 

 

Complex of the Year Award

The Canyons Softball Complex has been awarded the coveted quotation of "Complex of the Year" by the National Softball Association.

This award has been received by the Leisure Services Department Canyons Complex for the last 8 years, since the opening of the facility.

 

 

URPA Awards

St. George Leisure Services Department Receives State Awards

St George, Utah - The St. George Leisure Services Department has been honored for its commitment to quality programming, design and service to the community for leisure and recreational opportunities. The Utah Recreation and Parks Association held its annual conference in St. George at the Dixie Center this week and awarded the St. George Leisure Services Department an award for excellence for their commitment in the Parks and Recreation field.

The Department was awarded the "Outstanding Program of the Year" for its youth program, "Curiosity Club." The program, held at the Tonaquint Nature Center, has engaged children, ages 3-5 years old, for over a year. Curiosity Club provides an interactive and fun learning setting for little ones. The main goal of the program is to encourage and expand a child,s desire and need to learn new things and ask questions.

The program will expanded in April 2009 by offering a morning along with an afternoon session. Registration is now open for the new session starting Tuesday, April 14 at 10:30 am. For more information visit www.sgcityrec.org or call the St. George Recreation Center at 627-4560.
