Swimming Programs & Classes

SWIMMING LESSON LEVELS

The Learn to Swim Program follows American Red Cross program guidelines. Classes are designed to teach progressive techniques to the beginner through the advanced swimmer. It is our goal to advance students through the lesson sequence at a reasonable pace while maintaining a high standard of instruction. It is not uncommon for a child to repeat a particular level.

Level Description
Parent/Tot
6 mo to 2 yrs
Introduction to water adjustment through direct parental interaction.
Safety and enjoyment are emphasized.
Level 1
3 - 4 years
Water adjustment skills, fully submerging face, basic breath control.
No prerequisite required.
Level 2 Beg
4 - 6 years
Front and back float, kicking, basic front and back crawl.
Prerequisite: successful completion on Level 1.
Level 2 Adv
4 - 7 years
Introduces basic skills to prepare student for independent movement.
Level 3
7 - 10 years
Beginning diving, refine front and back crawl, treading water.
Prerequisite: successful completion on Level 2.
Level 4
9 years and up
Elementary backstroke, sidestroke, rhythmic breathing, treading water.
Prerequisite: successful completion on Level 3.
Level 5
9 years and up
Refine all strokes, learn diving skills from diving board, learn basic competitive strokes.
Prerequisite: successful completion on Level 4.
Level 6
10 years and up
Refine all competitive strokes. Flip turns are introduced.
Prerequisite: successful completion on Level 5.
*Ages are used as a general guideline, however students are placed into classes based on skill rather than their age.
