OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN ST. GEORGE

About 7:55 pm yesterday’s date St. George Police officers responded to a report of a domestic violence call. They encountered an individual who pointed a weapon in their direction. At least one shot was fired by the officers and one person was transported to DRMC by ambulance.

Officers responded to the area of 110 North 2790 East and encountered a man identified as 48 year old Craig J. Steiner of St. George, outside a residence who pointed a weapon in a threatening manner at the two officers. After failing to comply with repeated commands to drop the weapon, the officers fired at Steiner. The officers immediately rendered first aid until Steiner was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be conducted by the State Medical Examiner’s Office. As per department policy, the two officers involved have been put on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the Washington County Critical Incident Team. The St. George Police Department is cooperating fully with the Critical Incident Team’s investigation.

Any further questions can be directed to Sgt. Craig Harding, St. George Police Department, 435-703-1276.
