Our K-9 officers work very closely with the Drug and Gang Task Force in the suppression and interdiction of drug activity. They work closely with patrol and the school resource officers to ensure that drugs are found and removed from our streets and schools by doing random patrols of restaurant and motel parking lots, and school hallways and lockers. The K-9 officers actively present drug information to various groups in the community in an effort to promote awareness and dangers of the use of illegal substances.

About "Buster", our St. George Police K-9

The SGPD purchased Buster from Falco Enterprises, Inc. in southern California. Andy Jimenez is the owner and operator of Falco K-9 academy, he came highly recommended and located Buster for us. Buster is a two year old Belgian Malinois. He was born in Slovakia, and on July 8, I picked him up at the Los Angeles airport after a very long flight from Slovakia. Buster came to the SGPD as a "green" dog, not having any training. We spent seven weeks at Utah POST where Buster became a certified narcotics detection dog and I became a narcotics detection dog handler. Next we will spend seven more weeks at POST to become patrol certified. When training is completed we will be ready mid December. Since becoming narcotics certified, Buster has already had success. He is a very good dog, extremely social and loves to be around people.
