Sgt. Cowan currently serves as a Patrol Sergeant. He started his law enforcement career in 1992 in the Patrol Division as a patrol officer. Other assignments include: Field Training Officer, Motorcycle Officer and Supervisor, Gang Officer, and was one of the original four officers that started the Bicycle Unit in 1997. Sgt. Cowan is a Firearms Instructor for the police department and the Police Academy, Taser Instructor, and is on the SWAT team. He serves in the Utah Army National Guard’s 2/222 FA (Triple Deuce) and was deployed for Operation Noble Eagle and Iraqi Freedom.
Officer Tait was hired by the St. George City Police Department in April 1984. Tait worked on the street in Patrol and spent 10 years on the Departments SWAT team. Tait has also worked in the Investigations Division as a Detective and is currently part of the Special Enforcement Division working as a School Recourse Officer. Tait has been a State Certified Firearms Instructor since 1986 and assists in the training of both new and veteran Officers.
Been in law enforcement for 19 years, 16 of those with SGPD. Have been on the traffic unit, investigations, Gang and Drug task force, and my current assignment is with the School Resource program which I have been in for 3 years. I have a PTO for several years. I am also a accident re-constructionist,(10 years) and a Emergency vehicle Operations Instructor for the last 6 years.
