Recreational Fires and Fire Pits
The requirements for an open recreational fire within a residential area are as follows:

  1. Maintain 25’ distance away from buildings and other combustible material.

  2. Clear combustible material away from fire vicinity.

  3. The fire must be constantly attended until the fire is fully extinguished.

  4. A readily accessible method of extinguishment must be available. (garden hose, fire extinguisher, etc.)

  5. Keep the fire size to approximately 3’ in diameter. This is not a permit to build a bon fire.

  6. Avoid smoky fires that cause a nuisance to the neighbors. Nuisance complaints will terminate the permitted fire activity.

  7. Call the fire department at 627-4150 to obtain a burn permit prior to lighting the fire. There is no charge for the original permit.

  8. Permit holders are responsible for violations or damages that may occur as a result of the activity.

  9. If hot or windy conditions occur, the fire must be extinguished immediately. Keep an eye on changing conditions.

  10. If conditions are not favorable to open burning, a permit will not be issued or may be revoked.

If you have any additional questions, please call at 627-4150.
