Municipal Power in the City of St. George
The municipal power concept began in St. George in March of 1909 with a small hydro generation system powered by water from the open ditch of the Cottonwood Canal at the base of Pine Valley Mountain.
Millcreek Generation Facility
The Millcreek Generation Facility (MGF) is a 40 MW natural gas fired facility. Construction on the MGF began in May of 2005 and was completed a year later.
Red Rock Generation Facility
The Red Rock Generation Facility is located at 695 E. Red Hills Pkwy and is owned and operated by the City of St. George Energy Services Department (SGESD).
Bloomington Generation Facility
This plant is located in the southwest corner of Bloomington, adjacent to the Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Gunlock Hydro Plant
The Gunlock Hydro Plant was put in service in 1987 and is located 15 miles West of St. George, 200 yards down stream from Gunlock Reservoir.
Pine Valley Hydro Plant
The The Pine Valley Hydro Plant was originally constructed in 1941 and provided power to St. George until 1981.
