Municipal Power in the City of St. George
The municipal power concept began in St. George in March of 1909 with a small hydro generation system powered by water from the open ditch of the Cottonwood Canal at the base of Pine Valley Mountain.
Millcreek Generation Facility
The Millcreek Generation Facility (MGF), a natural gas fired generation facility, began commercial generation in May of 2006. The first phase had a capacity of 40 megawatts (MW). The second phase was completed in June of 2010 and increased the capacity of the facility to 80 MW.
Red Rock Generation Facility
The Red Rock Generation Facility is located at 695 E. Red Hills Pkwy and is owned and operated by the City of St. George Energy Services Department (SGESD).
Bloomington Generation Facility
This plant is located in the southwest corner of Bloomington, adjacent to the Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Pine Valley Hydro Plant
The Pine Valley Hydro Plant was originally constructed in 1941 and continues to provide power the St. George.

 Access to sustainable, maintenance-free solar energy is now available to St. George residents through SunSmart. City of St. George Energy Services Department and Dixie Escalante Electric have built a large solar photovoltaic (PV) facility allowing residents to get solar power through SunSmart, a community solar farm. .: More Information Available Here :.

Upcoming Pre-Qualification Testing - July 2013
The next testing for all employees representing companies that are requesting to be pre-qualified to work on high voltage installations on the St. George Energy Services system will be held July 2012. The exact date will be announced in June 2012. Applications must be submitted by June 30, 2012 for approval.
Energy Services will be giving a training class pertaining to Energy Service requirements before testing begins. The date of the training will be announced in June 2012. New cards will be issued after completion of training. All card holders will have to re-certify after 2 years.
Note: A $50 fee will be assessed to each company testing. Testing will be held in the Energy Services
Yard at 811 E Red Hills Parkway.
