Fences & Walls

Lots in St. George typically have a 25' front setback zone. Lots in Bloomington Hills and all R-1-6 lots have a 20' front setback zone. Corner lots have two front setback zones.

No fence shall be erected within one foot of an existing or future sidewalk or within a three-foot radius of a fire hydrant. [ VIEW DIAGRAM PDF ]

A wall or fence up to six feet in height, measured from the lowest side, may be built along the interior and rear property lines. On a corner lot, the six-foot wall may not be within 10' of the sidewalk, or property line where no sidewalk exists, and must be at least 10' back of the front of dwelling. [ VIEW DIAGRAM PDF ]

Only decorative fences, such as picket or wrought iron, that are at least 50% open may be built within the front 10' of the front setback zone. [ VIEW DIAGRAM PDF ]

No obstruction to view in excess of three feet (3') in height shall be placed on any corner lot within a triangular area formed by the street property lines and a line connecting them at points thirty feet (30') from the intersection. [ VIEW DIAGRAM PDF ]

Solid walls or fences up to four feet in height may be built within the front setback zone provided that the wall is at least 10' away from the sidewalk or property line where no sidewalk exists. [ VIEW DIAGRAM PDF ]
