rodorton@sgcity.org
Rodney K. Orton was appointed by Mayor McArthur to the City Council in January
of 1999. He was elected in the year 2000 to a four year term. Rodney has
served as Council Representative to the Public Works Department, Airport
Board, Board of Adjustment, and Washington County Economic Board. He is
currently Council Representative to the Leisure Services Department and
sits on the Washington County Interlocal Agency Board.
Rodney was born in Panquitch, Utah and was raised in Cedar City where he
attended Southern Utah State University as a business major. He and his
brothers, Sterling and Raymond, bought out their Father's small grocery
business known as Lin's Marketplace in 1982, turning it into a 60-million
dollar per year company employing over 500 Southern Utah residents. The
Orton's sold Lin's Marketplace to Associated Foods in 1999. Rodney remained
as the President and CEO until 2001.
Rodney is a 32-year resident of St. George and has served in a variety of
leadership positions in the community. He was President of the Spirit of
Dixie Committee, Chairman of the Bloomington Community Council 1994-95,
and Chairman of the St. George Lions Dixie Round-up and Dixie Downs Race
Meet. He served as Vice-Chair on the Associated Foods Board of Directors
in Salt Lake City. Rodney currently serves as Vice-Chairman of Dixie Regional
Medical Center's Governing Board, Board Member of Village Bank, and was
appointed by Governor Leavitt to the Judicial Conduct Commission where he
is serving as Vice-Chairman. He also owns and operates a family property
management company.
Because of his business background, Councilman Orton hopes to return his
success through service back to the community. He is confident in the Mayor,
City Council Members and the City Staff and looks forward to his civic duties.
Rodney is married to Michelle Adams Orton from Washington, Utah and has
seven children.
Councilman Orton's current term expires December 31, 2007. |
