OPENING:

Mayor McArthur called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance. The pledge of allegiance to the flag was led by Jerry Campbell and the invocation was offered by Mayor McArthur.

PUBLIC COMMENTS:

Archie Iverson distributed copies of Sec. 4-2-4 of the City Code with regard to nuisances and stated he wanted it changed. He read his proposed amendment to the City Code.

Adam Whitney read a quote from Thomas Jefferson. He stated at some point citizens have to be trusted to take care of things themselves, and not have the government take care of everything.

Kirk Ehlers commented he agreed with Mr. Iverson and that not knowing who complained is a nuisance in itself. He stated that a car that is being worked on should not be considered a junk car.

Jim Flohr stated the devastating consequence of illegal immigration is taking jobs away from and downgrading wages of American citizens. He encouraged the adoption of the County’s ordinance with regard to e-verify. He commented that the 2012 legislative session is worthless as far as illegal immigration is concerned.

Jerry Campbell commented that the bill before the legislature to require every HOA to provide $2 per door to fund an ombudsman is a rip off.

Public Works Director Larry Bulloch gave an update on road projects under construction. The Dixie Drive Interchange is nearing completion with a deadline of July 27. The widening of Dixie Drive should be completed in March. The Red Hills Parkway project should be completed this fall. The storm drain project extending from the old part of town to the river will be completed this summer.

The meeting then adjourned.
