Visions of Zion-all media- best of Zion from Kanab to Ivins, Cedar to Mesquite
Show available:
September 26, 2009 through
January 16, 2010
Visions of Zion– a juried exhibit in all media by Southern Utah area artists The inspiration for this exhibit is twofold. In 2007, for the tenth anniversary of the St. George Art Museum in this beautiful structure, we initiated “Connect to the Community.” During that year we featured exhibits by the four major art organizations in our area with the intention to continue this type of endeavor in the future. During the planning for A Century of Sanctuary: the Art of Zion National Park over two years ago, we knew not the nature of the Century juried exhibit, except that it would be limited to paintings. Therefore we wished to offer another opportunity for local artists from Kanab to Ivins and Cedar City to Mesquite working in any medium to submit one piece for a later juried exhibit titled Visions of Zion. When A Century of Sanctuary was juried by Peter Hassrick, and the Visions show long planned, a phenomenal nine area artists of the 66 total artists in the Century of Sanctuary exhibit were chosen from the over 500 entries. Some of the same artists are in this exhibit: Arlene Braithwaite, Pearl Meadows, Warren F. Marshall, and Janet Tenneson McCarty. All of the exhibiting artists are listed below. The second reason for this show is due to the immense magnitude of Zion National Parks 100th birthday, we believed a concluding exhibit to continue and wrap up this celebration was in order, hence this impressive exhibit representing many media by 83 artists. This exhibit confirms that a rich artistic community is developing in this region. Enjoy the St. George Art Museum’s latest “Connect to the Community” effort as well as this final paean to the majesty and importance of Zion National Park to our region and the world.
