PERMANENT COLLECTION DISCOVERY: RECENT GIFTS & ACQUISITIONS

Show available:
July 21, 2007
through September 22, 2007

The backbone of an art museum is the permanent collection. On view from July 21st (free that day to the public) through September 22, 2007 will be a group of varied and wonderful works of art, most have never been on view before. There are oil, pastel, and watercolor paintings by many important regional painters such as Gaell Lindstrom, Kate Starling, Del Parson, Wallace Lee, Jim Wilcox, David Jackson, Bonnie Conrad, and Daren Wilding. The exhibit is enhanced by a number of three dimensional pieces by Kim Seyesnem Obrzut, Matt Clark, Suzanne Storer, Tim Keenan and Mike and Bonnie Stevens. The exhibit also includes a photograph by Willie Holdman and prints by Homer Clark and Dale Bryner. A number of these pieces are gifts, and we are grateful to the following generous donors: Joan Lee (Mrs. Wallace Lee), Martie Collett (Mrs. Farrell Collett), Gary and Joyce Sanders, and Mrs. Llewellyn Thompson.

Also on view in the Mezzanine Hall are two portraits painted by Farrell Collett (1907-2000) that haven’t been on view for some time. These include Miss American Indian of 1957-Miss Sandra Glover and Les Barker-Movie “Tarzan of the Apes”. Both are gifts to the St. George Art Museum.

These works compliment the over 100 paintings of Paint America on view in both the Main and Mezzanine Galleries to comprise a colorful look at both America and the Permanent Collection of the St. George Art Museum.

Three additional offerings are Care for Your Art on wood (features three pieces of wood from the Permanent Collection by Lane Phillips), the Family and Adult Study Centers, all available to enhance your visit to the Museum.
