Visual Arts Association

Show available:
March 31, 2007
through July 07, 2007

Over 40 art pieces will be on view in this exhibit. One of four exhibits of the major area art groups (Color Country Camera Club, VAA, Southern Utah Watercolor Society, Quilt Guild) to be shown at the St. George Art Museum in 2007 to celebrate our Tenth Anniversary in the beautiful Pioneer Center for the Arts Complex. These groups are part of our 2007: Legacy II for the Next Ten Years.

Under the new leadership of Ronald Wilkinson, the Visual Arts Association believes that
because art nourishes the human spirit The Visual Arts Association (VAA) is establishing a rich environment by capturing the imagination and touching lives of individual in diverse ways through educating people about the value and meaning of visual art today. Art provides a mirror for the self. It can contribute to the unfolding of individual, social and cultural histories and deepen understanding of a complex and rapidly changing world.

The VAA, led for years by Wally Brazzeal, is a membership body open to organizations and individuals concerned with the exhibition, interpretation and development of visual art and functions as a catalyst, sharing expertise and knowledge and campaigning for a healthy visual arts destination area. The VAA serves the artists and friends of the visual arts of the Southern Utah Tri-state region by encouraging and promoting the creative process. Membership is to all levels of artists throughout the region, and the VAA welcomes everyone to join.
The Association is establishing and hosting a full calendar of exhibitions and events. The work of member artists is diverse in style, images and media - from traditional to modern digital imagery. Established and emerging artists are presented in open, juried and invitational shows. Individuals and small group shows are also encouraged throughout each year.

VAA’s commitment to its founding mission of encouraging emerging artists is supported by the many educational opportunities offered through workshops, classes and special programs. Additionally, the VAA hopes to extend opportunities, and are in the opening stages of involvement with local schools to develop youth and children’s creative arts programs. The zenith of this collaborative effort will be an annual Creative Youth Competition and Exhibit. The works of many young artists will be exhibited with prizes awarded by a judge. We hope in the future to be able to awards a scholarship to an outstanding graduating art student at one or more of the local High School.

The VAA will be giving a free 3rd Thursday Art Conversation on May 17 at 7pm at the Museum.
