Legacy
Art and History of Utah’s Dixie

Focusing on art as a significant part of the 1996 Utah Statehood Centennial celebration, Legacy combines a visual presentation by respected local artists, with significant historical information.

The art and history centennial project was initiated by the St. George Visual Arts Committee, a subcommittee under the St. George Arts Commission. The goal was to promote the visual arts in Dixie and to provide a permanent collection of 12 historical paintings for the St. George Art Museum. Inspiration for the project is attributed to Farrell Collett who, over many years, has stressed the need for a collection of regional historical paintings. His knowledge of the Weber State University’s Bicentennial Art collection, his shared experience and enthusiasm, have encouraged the committee to forge ahead in this direction.
