Active Transportation

Active transportation is most commonly walking or bicycling but can include any means of transportation that are primarily human powered.  Active transportation is an integral piece of the transportation puzzle, providing ways for people to reach their destinations regardless of mode.  Walking and bicycling allow St. George residents and visitors to enjoy increased mobility and independence, increased property values, improved health, a safer transportation environment for non-motorists and motorists alike, and a better quality of life.  Additionally, nearly 40% of St. George’s residents are under 16 or over 70 years of age – people who are either unable to or who are less likely to drive an automobile.  Planning, building, and maintaining active transportation networks ensures that all St. George residents can have access to safe and efficient transportation.

St George’s active transportation networks include bike lanes, sidewalks, and multi-use trails.
