Bloomington - SunRiver Trail

This spring, the City of St. George finished the construction of a mile and a half portion of the Virgin River trail system between Bloomington Park and the Sunriver community. This link now connects the length of the Virgin River Trail system from St. George’s southwestern most community all the way to the City limits in the northeast quadrant of the City . The first ¾ mile segment runs between Bloomington Park and the future Las Colinas neighborhood park at the bottom of the dike structure that was built in response to the 2005 flood. This portion of the trail is constructed of soil cement, a substance which is resistant to high water levels and flood damage. At the site of the future Las Colinas park, the trail climbs up the dike and continues along the top of the dike to the northeast corner of Sunriver.

The segment on top of the dike is a more traditional asphalt trail. The view along this trail is spectacular and there is often a pleasant breeze coming up from the Virgin River Gorge. The City of St. George, in partnership with the Virgin River Program, is excited about the educational and interpretive opportunities along this length of trail to teach the community more about the natural history of the Virgin River. This fall the City will be working with the Virgin River Program to revegetate along the this segment of trail with willow trees and install interpretive, educational signage.
